The Dataset Catalog is a curated catalog of biomedical datasets from various repositories for biomedical researchers to connect with key datasets and accelerate their scientific research. This guide is meant to help you use the catalog to find datasets relevant to your research. Information about the repositories included in the catalog can be found on the Repositories page. (link https://datasetcatalog.nlm.nih.gov/repositories.html)

a. Click on National Library of Medicine to go to the NLM home page.
b. Login. Features such as saving searches and your search history require a login. You can connect a variety of accounts to the Dataset Catalog, including your ORCID ID.
c. Return to the home page. Clicking on Dataset Catalog will return you to the homepage.
d. Search for datasets within the Dataset Catalog. The search bar supports keywords and phrases, as well as the Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, and parenthesis (). For example: (liver transplantation) AND (cardiovascular disease).
e. Your initial search can be limited to Title, Funding information, or Contributors. Leave this as All to search all fields in the Dataset Catalog.
f. After you've entered search terms and Booleans, click Search to get started.
g. Feedback. Feedback on the Dataset Catalog beta is greatly appreciated and will help NLM develop and improve this resource.

h. Get Involved in what's happening with the Dataset Catalog as well as the repositories and initiatives it supports.
i. The Dataset Catalog is adding more repositories to the catalog. Entries in Recently Added Repositories keeps you up to date with what's new and what's coming soon.

a. This number displays the current number of results matching your search and filters.
b. Saving your search, along with other features, such as saved citations and search history, requires logging in.
c. You search results can be sorted by relevance, and date (newest to oldest or oldest to newest).
d. Filter options. Search results can be filtered by Time Frame, source Repository, Time Frame, and whether the record includes funding information.

e. Dataset information. Each dataset in the search results will contain the Title, source Repository, Issued Date, and a Description. These are taken directly from the dataset documentation. Click on the Title to go to the full citation for that dataset.
f. Saving a citation to a custom list, or for exporting a list, requires logging in.
g. Disclaimer. Please note that while Dataset Catalog provides information about biomedical datasets, inclusion on an NLM web page does not imply endorsement of, or agreement with, the contents by NLM or the National Institutes of Health. Learn more at NLM Web Policies.

The dataset citation page provides comprehensive information about a specific dataset:
a. Clicking on Back to Search will return you to you search results.
b. Citations for datasets can be copied to your clipboard in the APA formats.
c. Saving a citation, along with other features, such as search history, requires logging in.
d. Above the title on a citation are a links to information about the repository, the date of publication, and the dataset URI.
e. Access Information. View the dataset at its source Repository by clicking on the repository thumbnail in Access information box. Any licensing or rights information will be linked below the repository thumbnail under Rights.
f. Contributors. Contributors are the authors of the dataset. Clicking on a name will search the catalog for that same contributor.
g. Dataset URI. A dataset URI is the Uniform Resource Identifier and is the unique identifier for a dataset.
h. The dataset Description and Keywords are taken directly from the source repository and are not modified by the Dataset Catalog.
i. Usage Rights and Funding Information, if provided by the source repository, will be displayed.
j. Associated publications. These publications are either the source of the dataset or reference it in that publication. Clicking on a publication will link to the article in PubMed.
k. MeSH terms listed are a combination of those that may be provided in the dataset citation or those mapped by NLM when the dataset citation is added to the Dataset Catalog.

a. You can connect a variety of accounts to the Dataset Catalog, including various research organizations, colleges, and universities. This will enable features such as saved searches and citations, as well as search history.
